Congressman Jared Polis spoke to a group of students in the science lecture hall during block lunch today, Wednesday November 9th. He addressed issues that Fairview students have written to him about, including government sponsored college loans, alternative energy, and legalization of marijuana. Polis also took several questions from students on current issues, from educational funding to partisan tensions in Congress to military operations in Libya and Uganda.

Polis is noted for his close relationship with the Boulder community as well as his entrepreneurial past. He started several online businesses in college and was hugely successful in the dot-com boom. After selling his companies, he chose to enter the political world.

Polis is the elected congressman from Colorado’s second congressional district, which encompasses Boulder County and the mountain towns to the west. He is entering his second term in the United States House of Representatives. Issues Polis is passionate about include immigration, education, and clean energy.
